Y’all know I love a good suit. Thankfully, the Miss Universe Organization stylist, Emma Pritchard, knows this better than anyone. When BET decided to include me in their prestigious “Future 40” group, Emma pulled this incredible green suit. The pattern added an interesting twist that made me feel confident at exactly the right moment.
BET celebrated its 40-year legacy of coverage of the Black community by highlighting 40 young, innovative, Black people during Black History Month 2020. I was honored that BET included me in this esteemed group and you can find my interview here! We talked about my journey as Miss USA, confidence, and my mom inspiring me to compete in pageants. We also briefly touched on my pro bono work, criminal justice reform advocacy, and, my personal favorite, THIS BLOG!
Given the tone and topic of the interview, Emma and I agreed that a suit would be the best wardrobe option for me. I spent years in courtrooms and offices as a law student and attorney, so I feel most comfortable in suits. Pants were well-suited (pun intended) for filming this segment. It involved me sitting in a director-style high chair and standing back up a few times. Emma selected a monochromatic theme, pairing a green suit and blouse from New York & Co. with green pumps from Vince Camuto. I felt like a boss all day.
