I had an interview scheduled with two fashion gurus. It may or may not have taken me several hours to pick an outfit and get dressed. My room looked like a stampede had run through it, but I emerged successful in this killer blue velvet suit!
The Show
Alexa Chung and Tan France know fashion. They’re the hosts of “Next in Fashion,” a design competition on Netflix. When I interviewed them, the pandemic had not yet hit (hence the lack of masks and social distancing in the photos) and their show had just aired. I was only a few months into my role as an entertainment news correspondent on ExtraTV and I was thrilled to be able to talk to them. I was also a little intimidated. What do you wear to interview two ridiculously stylish people?
Answer: something that makes you feel good.
It’s easy to get caught up in trends and seasons and feeling like you need to look like you just walked off the set of a photoshoot. I know the feeling well. I feel like I’ve been in front of cameras constantly since becoming Miss USA in May 2019. I’ve learned that your primary focus when you are facing an important event is how you feel in the clothing. And I felt like a rockstar in this blue velvet suit. Funny enough, the last blue suit I posted on this blog also made me feel great and had quite the story tied to it.
The Suit
The suit was made from a stretchy material, so it was pretty comfortable. It was January, and the interview was held outdoors, so I opted for a pump instead of an open-toe shoe. The blazer on the jacket was pretty form fitting, so I needed to wear a pretty tight top underneath it. The more blousy, loose ones I tried on were bunching underneath the blazer. Instead of a typical shirt, I wore a bralette that was large/long enough to look like a low-cut fitted crop top as long as I kept my blazer buttoned.
The suit was by Chiara Boni and if I owned it, I would’ve worn it again and again. It was a sample piece sent to me by the stylist for ExtraTV. I reluctantly sent it back after wearing it. It’s sold out now, but I’ve linked a different version below. It has a looser cut and different type of velvet, but certainly worth a wear!
Enjoy,
